I believe you have a story to share through art. I believe we all have creative energy inside of us waiting to come out in form of colors, shapes and lines. My mission is to hold a safe, non-judgemental and compassionate space for you play and express yourself through art materials.
I get it, art making can be a scary thing. A lot of us like to label ourselves as “non-creative” but the truth is, we're born as creative beings. I have years of experience facilitating the art process for people and I’ve heard the same collection of creativity stories. Maybe it was your teacher or classmate that told you it wasn’t a very nice drawing or your parents told you it wouldn’t make a good career. Whatever it is, we all have those stories. Mine was my 4th year painting professor telling me I shouldn’t pursue painting anymore. Hearing that halted my creativity and livelihood. It took a few years of a lot of self love, introspection, yoga and meditation to get back into the act of creating again. Once I got reconnected back to my creative spirit, I started to change the way I looked at life and eventually my life started to change. I began to see the world through an eyes of a child, with curiosity, wonder and joy. I felt free and more and more like my true self every time I created art.
After reuniting with my creativity and seeing how important it was for my emotional and spiritual well being, I decided I wanted to dedicate my life by helping others to do so. This led to me study at the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute to earn a post-graduate diploma in Art Therapy. I have experience working one on one with clients helping them find their creative voice again, as well as over 5 years of facilitating the painting process in individual, workshop and team building settings. I can say, I feel most aligned in who I am and why I'm here when I am being of service during the creative art making process.
As humans, we hold a lot in. We don't speak our truth, we don't allow ourselves to express our truest feelings because we're afraid of judgement from ourselves and others. Sometimes, we don't even have the words to express what we're going through. My goal is to have you create from the heart, move through emotions, release old patterns, recognize the light in yourself and find your own unique voice of expression.
A creative session is aimed to help you access artistic expression for healing. No art experience or knowledge of art materials is needed. It is not an art skill lesson but more of a way to free your creativity.
Each client may have a different goal coming to a creative session, but they are all valid. Maybe you want to reconnect with the creative aspect of yourself, or maybe you're going through a life transition and need an outlet of expression, or maybe you're feeling like you've lost of a sense of yourself and need some creative magic to help you find your voice again. Whatever it is you're going through, I will work collaboratively with you to figure out what is best.
Each session can be very different from each other. I may assign a creative themed project, offer a creative exercise or have you play intuitively with simple art materials such as paint, clay, chalk, and etc. Each art material has a different purpose - paint can flow easily, crayons can bring out your inner child and clay is a great for tactile sensations. The goal is to have you creating despite what you inner critic says. There is no judgement or interpretation of your art work. I am there to guide you through the process, observe and ask questions that may lead you develop new insights or perspectives about your life. I believe you have the answers to everything and I am just there to be a witness to your creative magic.
